Why Canada

Canada is known for pairing high-quality education with one of the clearest immigration pathways of any English-speaking destination — a post-graduate work permit that can lead directly toward permanent residency. With a population of around 39 million spread across the world's second-largest country, there's a real range of city sizes and costs to choose from.

Winters are cold nationwide, though it's a milder, wetter cold on the west coast around Vancouver than the deep freeze further inland or east. Toronto's skyline and CN Tower anchor the country's largest city, while the Canadian Rockies around Banff offer some of the most dramatic scenery of any study destination on this list.

English and French are both official languages, with French concentrated mainly in Quebec — most programmes for international students run in English unless you're specifically applying to a Quebec institution.
